Like its lower variant that has been built with top-end technology, Google Assistant and free cloud services, so is the Google Pixel XL. Unarguably, one will say that the most distinguishing feature of the Pixel XL from the Pixel, is its size; deducing from its tagged name 'XL'. Compared to the Pixel, the Google Pixel XL specs show that it has a larger display screen and a battery whose capacity is larger than that of the former. Those features aside, this smartphone has very little differences from its lower variant. Given below, are the Google Pixel XL specs and price.

Overview Features

Display and Build

Google Pixel XL Gsmarena features a 5.5-inch quad-HD AMOLED display screen with a resolution of 1440 x 2560 pixels and pixel density of 534 PPI. Compared to the Google Pixel, the Pixel XL has a larger and sharper display screen. Images tend to be crisp and vibrant, and the display's quality can be said to be on the same level as the display screens of the Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge. Also featured on this screen, is a night light mode that makes it easier to read in low light conditions

The body of the Pixel XL is made of metal, giving the device a sleek and premuim look, durability, and a comfortable feel when held. Serving as a protection on the body against cracks is 2.5D Corning Gorilla Glass 4, that protects the device from the effects of collisions with rough surfaces. With an aluminium and glass build for a two-tone design, the Pixel XL is undoubtedly a premium device.

The Pixel XL has a dimension of 154.70 x 75.70 x 8.50 mm and a weight of 168.00 g. At that dimension, the Pixel XL is smaller in size than the Nexus 6P and iPhone 7 Plus. It is available in different color options tagged by Google as Very Black, Quite Silver, Really Blue. The Pixel XL also comes with a fingerprint sensor that is located at the device's rear. This sensor unlocks the device and with a gesture-based shortcut, allows the user to access the notifications and settings menu.

Hardware and Software

Like the  Asus Zenfone 3 Deluxe, the Google Pixel XL is also powered by a Qualcomm SnapDragon 821 chipset. The Pixel XL's processor, is a quad core processor with two cores clocked at 2.15Ghz and the other two, at 1.6GHz. This processor is fast and results in speedier operations even while processing labor intensive tasks.

The Pixel XL also features an artificial Intelligence-powered Google Assistant, which is a digital assistant that serves to answer a user's queries by searching the web and displaying web results. Google claims that the Assistant gives you a 'personal Google', which is accessible whenever and wherever. The Assistant can also make a list, send a text and tell jokes, amongst others.

The Pixel XL has 4GB of RAM and comes in two variants with either 32GB or 128GB Internal memory storage, both of which cannot be expanded via microSD. Although the storage is non-expandable, users of this device are offered an unlimited free cloud storage that can support all their photos. The Google Pixel XL runs on the latest Android Operating System, 7.1 Nougat. This version comes with few unique features like a round icon design for app icons and sub-menus being shown with a long press of the main app icons.

The Pixel XL has a rear camera with a resolution of 12.3MP and an f/2.0 aperture. At a resolution that high, more detailed images can be captured. With the small size of the lens and resolution of the camera, users can expect images captured by this device to be of great quality. According to Google, the Pixel XL and its variant, the Pixel, are the  best smartphone snappers in the market; and their Pixel DxO Mark score of 89 is higher than that of the iPhone 7 and Samsung Galaxy S7.

The Google Pixel XL also features a front camera with a resolution of 8MP and an f/2.4 aperture. The camera can shoot videos in Ultra HD 4K resolution with electronic image stabilization, to ensure videos are blur free especially when the device is in motion. Other features of the Pixel XL's camera include dual-LED flash, phase detection autofocus, HDR and panorama.

Battery and Connectivity

Google Pixel XL has a non-removable Li-on battery whose capacity is 3,450 mAh, the same as the battery of the Nexus 6P. Other than having a large battery capacity, its processor and Google's Doze 2.0 technology will ensure that this device has a long battery life. The battery can support stand-by time up to 552 hours on 3G, talk time up to 32 hours on 3G, and music play time up to 130 hours. There is also support for fast charging via a USB Type-C port.

The Google Pixel XL is a single SIM smartphone that supports a Nano-SIM. It also supports 4G LTE connection speeds for fast web connection when downloading apps and streaming videos. Other connectivity options of this smartphone Include USB Type C, Bluetooth, and NFC. Its sensors include gyroscope, barometer, proximity, ambient light, and accelerometer.

Tech Lass's Verdict:

Google Pixel XL comes with the best and latest version of android, and can be said to be one of the best Android Phones in 2016. Its not so chic design, non-expandable memory storage, and not being entirely water resistant are some of its downsides. One would've expected a smartphone from Google to come with an eye catching design like the  stunning Galaxy S7 Edge and Iphone 7, but this is not the case (atleast, I seem to think so😒. The phone looks quite dull especially with the large Google logo inscribed behind).

But then, here's another android smartphone that can stand the test of time and its one from one of the big guys in the game (For those who don't still like the Tecno brand😉). It has great camera specs, wide display, comes with an Intelligent Assistant, good battery backup and unlimited backup of all your photos on Google's cloud storage. You get a quality smartphone, but for an extra cost, since the Google Pixel XL price will take more than a chunk out of your wallet.
