The Infinix Note 3 still features a huge display screen, but with more pixels in its resolution. It comes with a premium metal design, fingerprint sensor, humongous battery, improved operating system and a new user interface. As is common with variants in a series, the two variants of the Note series have similarities in features, some of which include: the same screen size, processor make and front camera resolution

Overview Features

Display and Build

The Note 3 has a 6.0 inch IPS Full HD display with a resoluiton of 1080 x 1920 pixels and pixel density of 368PPI. The size of this display is the same as the one on the Note 2, but its resolution is higher. A higher resolution on the same screen size means that the battery of the Note 3 will drain faster than that of the Note 2, since the display usually consumes most of the power in a device. Nevertheless, text and images on this display are clear and vivid, offering users a bright screen for reading, watching movies and playing games.

The body of the Hot Note 3 is made of metal to give it durability and its textured back cover is non-removable to protect the internal components of the device.  Despite the large battery, at a dimension of 162.5 x 82.8 x 8.4mm and weight of 135g, the Note 3 still maintains the slim build of its predecessor. These features give the Note 3 a sleek and premuim design and at the same time create a high-quality handling experience. It is available in different colour options which include gray, gold, black, and copper, allowing users to make a choice from several alternatives.

Its build and design is quite similar to its predecessor, with slight changes in speaker placement and addition of a fingerprint scanner. This fingerprint scanner enhances users privacy by locking and securing the phone from unauthorized use. With this feature, there's no need to memorize passwords, PINs or use third party applications to lock this device. Gionee claims that this finger print scanner can unlock the device in only 0.25 seconds and has the ability to capture with the main camera and when taking a selfies.

Processor and OS

Infinix Note 3 is powered by a 1.3GHz octa-core processor and 2GB of RAM, large enough to support multitasking and give the ease of switching between apps with little or no lags encountered. It also has an internal memory storage of 16GB that can be expanded up to 128GB via microSD card. Support for expansion means users get more space to store their media, apps and games if need be for an additional storage. Compared with the Note 2, these hardware specs are the same.

The Note 3 runs on Infinix's custom user interface, XOS based on Android 6.0 Marshmallow.  Like the Gionee's Amigo, Huawei's Emotion, and HTC's Sense, Infinix has not also left out its user interface on the Note 3. This UI allows users to customize their home screen with themes and wall papers and generally, is user friendly. Also, the power saving features of the XOS gives the battery of the Note 3 longevity.

The Infinix Note 3 has a 13MP rear camera with LED flash and PDFA auto-focus technology to capture sharp images in less than 0.25s. It also has a 5MP front camera with soft LED flash. According to Infinix, both cameras include built-in blue glass to avoid flare and to capture crystal-clear Images even in harsh lighting conditions.

Battery and Connectivity

The battery capacity of the Infinix Note 3 is 4500mAh and among all Infinix devices, the Note 3 has the highest battery capacity. This battery at that capacity with the XOS power saving features can lengthen the battery life for more than 2 days before there is need to recharge. The battery also charges fast thanks to its fast charge technology. Infinix claims that with the inclusion of a duo 4.5A charging engines with PE+2.0 technology, this battery charges faster and more efficiently. Furthermore, a 5 minute charge can support up to 3 hours 20 minutes of talk time and that the Note 3 can be fully charged in 99 minutes.

Preventing the battery of the Note 3 from overheating is an Aerospace cooling technology which includes copper pipes into the Note 3. These pipes carry fluid through the device and when overheating, the fluid evaporates and the extra heat is circulated as water vapor. Like its battery capacity that is unique among the Note series, so is this feature.

The Infinix Note 3 is a dual SIM smartphone that supports 2 SIM cards and one external memory card. Instead of a hybrid SIM Slot that uses either a SIM or a microSD card as found on the Gionee M6, users of the Note 3 will never have to compromise a second SIM for more storage and vise versa. Connectivity options of the Note 3 include: WIFI, bluetooth, and GPS. Its sensors include accelerometer, compass, fingerprint, proximity and ambient light sensors.

Tech Lass's Verdict:

We've seen batteries with larger capacities on Gionee and Innjoo devices, but the Infinix Note 3's battery is an improvement over its predecessors, even though it is not a significant one.

Comparing the Hot Note which has a 4000mAh battery with this much older variant's battery, the difference isn't that much. But atleast, it wasn't reduced like the Gionee M5 with 6020mAh battery and its older variant, the Gionee M6 with 5000mAh battery.

All the same, there have been significant upgrades on this device like its water cooling technology and fingerprint sensor and from the specs of the Note 3, we should expect more devices with advanced features like these from Infinix mobility.
