Overview Features

Display and Build

The Gionee M6 Gsmarena features a 5.5-inch full HD AMOLED display with a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels, pixel density of 401ppi, 100 percent NTSC gamut, and a 2.5D curved glass protection. This display is bright and sharp enough to present words and images in clear and vivid details. The wide viewing angle of the M6's dispaly coupled with its sharpness will ensure users get a good gaming experience.

The M6's body is made from metal instead of the more plastic body of its predecessor, the Gionee M5. It weighs 180 grams and has a dimension of 152.3x75.3x 8.2mm making it 0.4mm slightly slimmer and 31 grams lighter than the M5. This bulid gives it a sturdy feel and makes it comfortable to hold even with one hand. The Gionee M6 uses hardware buttons with the 'back' and 'recent apps' buttons being touch-sensitive while the 'home button' which also serves as a fingerprint scanner requires pressing. This smartphone is available in different colour options of Gold and Latte Gold.

Based on security features and storage options, there are two variants of the Gionee M6. For security, these are the Chinese variant that features a data encryption chip offering 10 layers of protection that secures the user’s data, and a global variant that features a fingerprint scanner, privacy protection and malware destruction. Since the global variant of the M6 won't have the built-in encrypted chip, when the M6 is released in Nigeria, users should expect the this variant in the country.

Hardware and Software

Gionee M6 is powered by a 64-bit MediaTek Helio P10 dual quad-core processor(octa-core processor) with one clocked at 1.8GHz and the other at 1.0GHz. This software allows the device to run smoothly without lags even on heavy use. It has 4GB of RAM, large enough to give this smartphone a high level of performace because of its support for better multitasking even when large apps are running and games with long loading times are played, especially 3D games.

For its variants based on storage options, the M6 features devices with either a 64GB Internal memory storage or 128GB Internal memory storage, both of which are expandable upto 256GB via microSD card. Either variant can provide a large free area for users to store their files without the need for an external storage device like the microSD card,

It runs on Amigo 3.2 UI skin on top of Android v6.0 Marshmallow operating system. This OS provides a user interface that is pretty clean and easy to use. According to Gionee, this variant of the Amigo skin comes with a lot of optimizations. One of these includes its feature that allows users to use two WhatsApp applications for two SIMs on the same phone.

Gionee M6 sports a 13MP rear camera with f/2.0 lens and an 8MP front camera with f/2.0 lens. The camera features include Exmor-RS CMOS sensor, phase detection autofocus (PDAF), LED flash, Panorama, and 1080p HD video recording. These features make for good colour reproduction on the M6 and enhancement of selfies.

Battery and Connectivity

The battery capacity of Gionee M6 is 5000mAh. Gionee claims that this battery can provide up to 6.4 hours of video playback, 55 hours of continuous call, and 794 hours (33 days) of standby time. The battery houses 9V/2A dual-charge chip for fast charging allowing the device to be fully charged in two hours.

This battery at that capacity should be able last well over two days on normal use. Also, the battery is an li-polymer battery, is non-removable, and supports reverse charging where it can be used like a power bank to other smartphones 20% faster than regular power banks.

The Gionee M6 supports dual micro SIM. Connectivity options on the M6 include Wi-Fi, GPS, bluetooth, WLAN, USB OTG, Micro-USB port, 3G and 4G LTE. Sensors on the phone include proximity, ambient light, accelerometer, compass, gyroscope, fingerprint sensor and an IR blaster that allows users to use the Gionee Marathon M6 as a remote control for audio and video devices.

The M6 comes preinstalled with several apps, one of which is a security app called “Private Vault”. This app provides a storage for data that only the user can have access to when unlocked using their unique fingerprint or PIN. The data in the vault is stored on the device’s encryption chip and according to Gionee, carries a self-operating system that generates random cryptographic keys using a true random number generator (TRNG).
